Please help me I'm confused!

Hi! I'm a fresh BSN graduate and has recently taken the June 2006 Nursing Licensure Examination. I am really confused on what I should focus on. You see, I am petitioned by my father from the state of New Jersey. He's been telling me that I really don't need to take the local board because all I should take up is the NCLEX. Since I am currently waiting for the process of my Visa papers (which was only been recently filed last February 2006--- I don't even have any idea when it will be approved by the US Immigration), I took the local board anyway thinking that it might be useful if I would want to train or work in some of the hospitals here in Manila. My problem are the ff: 1) I don't really know how to go about the processing of the requirements for the NCLEX considering my case? and 2) Do I need to work here or do I just concentrate on studying for the NCLEX?
Hoping someone would enlighten me on what I should do regarding my situation. Thank you so much...

1. NCLEX-RN is only an exam, it is th elast step of the licensing process.

There are no procesing requirements for the NCLEX exam, you must have approval from NJ to sit for the exam. They do not require the CGFNS exam anymore, and they did until last month for all foreign grads. They will require that you get a CES completed, before they will grant you permission to sit for the NCLEX-RN exam. That can be done thru CGFNS and can be downloaded at www.cgfns.org.

2. Now as far as your father petitioning for you. It will actually be much faster for you to be in the US and with your own green card, if you go about getting your own green card. With the petition from your father, it is family based, and will be a minimum of two years. You can be in the US in less than one year with your own green card. If not even sooner. I would not even think about a family petition at this point, especially if you are a nurse. It will only delay things for you. Employer-driven visas are much faster, and surprised that the attorney did not tell your father that.

You know we have exactly the same situation. My papers were filled last January 2006 and I am also a fresh graduate and recently took the board exam last june. My dad gave the same advised your dad has given you. Hehehehe..........
