Please help me get on the right career path!

Published

I need a little guidance to get on the right track in my life. I was in nursing school in August of last year, but had to drop out because I got in a car accident and broke my ankle. One year later (now), I have applied to re-enter the class. One of the new application requirements is that you take a PSB test and they only pick 10 people for the class. They pick the students based on their test scores. I was informed that I rank at #12 (only picking 10) but they may consider my advanced standing status in order to get me in the class. I am so depressed. I don't even know if I will be in the class or not. I don't know if I have the ability to pass this class even. I feel lost. Should I screw around and wait or are there any other opportunities in the healthcare or related field that makes pretty decent money? I've considered EMT, Paramedic, etc. what do you think? If I do those, it would be easier to get into the class and I'd finish school sooner. But, what is the pay? Help!

If you really want something else in the healthcare field consider radiology. I have been an xray tech for 15 yrs but am now in nursing school. I work at a walk in clinic now and the pay is crap, but they work with my school schedule.

As an xray tech in the hospital I made $18.65 an hour, when I graduate as an RN I will start at $19.75 until I pass my boards then it will be $21. Not that big of a difference, I am not changing to RN for the $.

If you do one extra year and get certified for MRI or CT you can make much more than an RN. The hospital I used to work hires MRI techs for weekend shift at $32 an hour.

You could be a Radiologic Technologist in 2 years, add one more year to become certified in MRI, 3 yrs from now you could be making more than an RN

Thank you, very informative!
