:uhoh21: Hello everyone!!!

I am finally able to start my pre-reqs. I had to stop because of financial issues but now Im registering for classes. I read a great post by someone who said they took their first two years at STLCC (pre-reqs) and then tranfered into UMSL Accelerated program. And now will have a BSN in 3 years! This sound like the perfect approach for me, but I have to be very careful with my finances and I think I may have to go the ASN route first. I am starting literally from scratch I have no credits. Is it possible to get my ASN in 3 years? I have been told it will take FOREVER if your starting where I am. I have heard so much Non sense I was just about to give up Nursing and just get a BA in something else, but I LOVE Nursing. Please give me some advice. I have two kids and a full time job to work around as well. But I am very determined to get this done as quickly at least 3 years and frugally as possible. Thanks everyone.:typing

To my knowledge, you can usually get your ADN in 2 academic years,no? You say you have kids and a full time job. Do you have a partner? Can someone help you? Knowing more about that side of things might help you get pertinent advice.

I will tell you my plans and perhaps you can go from there. I am getting my LNA by November(This is my goal anyway) and once I have that, I am taking a job as an LNA to get experience in the field. I am applying to 2 LPN and 2 RN ADN programs to start in 2010(If , God willing, I get accepted).

I am a single mom to two school aged kids. I pull no support or alimony. Once I start school full on, I will apply for any assistance I can get and encourage you to do the same. If it means becoming a nurse, I will put my pride away. I have made a promise to myself that, once I get to be an RN, I will help others the way that I was helped. I don't think you can work full time, take care of kids and focus on getting your ADN without seriously burning out. I would encourage you to, like me,look for grants, loans, support, etc. I hope that helps

It can be done. You sound determined and that will be what gets you through. My advice, if you haven't already done this, is post in the Missouri forum here on Allnurses. There are quite a few St. Louis area nurses and students in there with school-specific information. Good luck to you!

just plan your pre-reqs out, so that you can take some your co-reqs at the same time. You don't want to be taking psychology, humanities, speech and comp at the same time that you are taking your nursing classes.

ASN can be done in 3 years, starting with no credits.
