I'm pretty confident in my resume, but I feel like my cover letter is lacking. I graduated 2 months ago, and passed my NCLEX in June. I'm ready to start working again and am tired of being unemployed! This is my general cover letter. I have been changing it a bit for each position I apply to. I was a nurse extern while in nursing school, as well a a home care giver for a few months. Here it is:
In respect to the RN position at XXX,
I would like to convey my interest in the RN position at XXX. I have recently moved to XXX. I received my license in June and am eager to start my career as a professional registered nurse. I believe I could give a positive contribution to your company. I am a dependable and caring individual with enthusiasm to continue to improve my knowledge base in nursing.
While I was a nursing student I was able to work as a nurse extern in an acute care setting. My position as a nurse extern was invaluable experience for me because it gave me the opportunity to work alongside experienced RNs and other members of the health care team to improve my skills. I was also given the opportunity to spend more time with patients to create therapeutic relationships and develop assessment skills. This position, as well as other positions I have held outside the medical field, have helped me learn how to work well with a team of people. I also feel my experience has made me excellent in professional verbal communication with colleagues as well as with the community.
My resume highlights what I feel is my most relevant experience to this particular position. For additional information, you may contact me by phone at (XXX)XXX-XXXX. To contact me by e-mail, I am available at [email protected].
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
oakleaf, BSN, RN
