I believe Texas and California are the only ones using Licensed Vocational nurse, but it is the same as LVN. In Texas our Nurse Practice Act for Registered Nurses spells out the RN as a "professional" nurse and then describes "professional". The logic, as I understand it, is that the LVN scope of practice is not the same as the "professional" nurse.

We have the same in Australia: assistant in nursing; endorsed nurse, endorsed enrolled nurse, registered nurse, and so on up the ladder, and all of them defined by their differing scopes of practice. Thanks for your reply! Cheers!
