I'm in an ethics class and I have to do a research paper on the pro's and con's of animal research. (12 people have to work on this - rediculous!!! )
Anyways...
I'm going to try to create a poll, but if it doesn't work can you tell me if you are for or against animal research. And if you have a stipulation (such as for medical research but not for make-up) please note that also.
Thanks a bunch in advance for any assistance!!!!! :kiss

I've actually worked in animal research before I went back to school to be an RN. I couldn't do it. I worked in a lab that experimented on periodontal disease. They used rats, monkeys, and beagles (thank God I didn't have to contact the beagles.) I was wondering if it was actually meaningful research, and one of the scientists gave me a briefing on the hell that diabetics go through. I can't say I was ethically opposed to it... but I couldn't actually do it. Hypocritical? Well, maybe, but I think not. I don't think most people are opposed to, say, AIDS vaccine research on primates, yet it takes a very strong and yet a very caring person to actually work with these animals.
Testing for makeup? Hell no. Testing for medical reasons? Put my dad in that hospital bed (as he has been), and of course. If it's done ethically and is approved by the IRB, which most animal medical research is.
My cousin is in vet school and they have a pod of beagles they use for medical testing. (Why always beagles?) The dogs all live together in a big fenced-off field in nice weather, and they ALWAYS are getting love from the vet students. I liked seeing it. :)
And yes, I am a vegetarian. :)
