You can be a CPSN (certified plastic surgery nurse), but I believe you must be working with a plastic surgeon for at least two years before you can write the exam. Also, a lot of plastic surgeons are now opting to open up their own surgical suites and prefer to hire nurses who've had at least 2 years in the OR. Some hospitals also won't take a new grad into the OR (they want you to have a year of med-surg), so it could take as long as 5 years, but I'm sure there's someone out there who's gotten it sooner.
good luck!
I just found the web address to American Society of Plastic Surgery Nurses:
http://www.aspsn.org
If you go to under "Certification" and click on the Exam Application link in the left hand column it will bring you to the Application and at the very top it lists the Eligibility Criteria for Certification. It's not too different from what I originally posted.
good luck
p.s.
If you have any further inquires on this subject you may want to post them under Operating Room nursing and not under Nurse Anesthetist.

Do you know how much money CSPNs make? I have never heard of them until now.
It is my understanding that they do make a little more than a non-certified OR/Plastic Surgery Nurse... Please note that this is just a Certification (just like an RN can be certified in Med/Surg or Pediatrics), and does not imply that the RN has extra responsibilities or that the scope of practice is different from someone who is not certified, i.e. the nurse is not entitled to be a First Assistant, which would pay significantly more.
Thanks that really helped me to understand more!!!!
