Places to live in Houston?

I finally got the phone call every prospective nurse wants to hear... "Good morning ****, are you ready to go to nursing school?" However I am not from the Houston area and do not know the area. For those of you already there, where are the "good" places to live. I will be doing agency LPN work while in school, since I have to take care of my family. I will also be using my GI bill, which will give me some money for housing as well. I just want to make sure I am in a place that is relatively safe, doesn't cost an arm and a leg ($1200 per month is max), and isn't too far of a drive.

Anyways, since I know it will be asked, my GPA is 2.76, I am a current Army LPN of 7 years, and I got a 97% on the HESI. I also had pretty much all of the general education courses done. For those of you with lower GPA's like mine, study your butt off for the test, it plays a major factor in your admission chances.
