Placental Accreta

Published

hi all..this is my first post!! i hope someone can give me some insight! i'm not looking for any medical advice, per se..just some insight!! i am 39, have a 2 year old. i m/c after blighted ovum in april 2003 and became pregnant again last june. sadly, my son was born still in october 2003 at 22.4 weeks gestation after prom. after a lady partsl delivery, the placenta just wouldn't detach! i was rushed for a d & c, that turned into an emergent situation..i was hemorrhaging. during the emergency surgery, my ob removed the placenta and a large fibroid and but thankfully was able to save my uterus. i had seven units of blood, fresh frozen plasma and platelets. i have recovered pretty quickly!

my husband and i desperately want another child. my ob says that i shouldn't have any problems, but advises that if i do become pregnant, that the delivery should probably be by c-section but a vbac wouldn't be impossible! she hasn't said really what the cause was (just a "fluke"), but she did throw out the possibility of a placenta accreta.

we can ttc in october (she wanted me to wait one year)! i don't fear having a hysterectomy if i can have a healthy baby.

if in fact this was a placenta accreta, do they recur? can i go on to have a successful, full-term pregnancy or at least make it to the 3rd trimester? do you know of anyone that went on to have successful pregnancy after prom and placental accreta?

again, i'm not looking for a diagnosis, just some professional insight!!

thanks in advance!!

i was able to give birth but had hemmorhaging because of the pitocin used to induce the labor. my second child that i gave birth to was a percipitate delivery, came out with the cord on her neck 3x with no md on hand and to this day has speech delays. 1 week after she was born i was hemorrhaging, had to have an emergency d & c to get all of the placental fragments out. had been in the er befor that complaining of fever and excess bleeding and was ignored. my ob did not want to do a d & c but i insisted and he pulled out a lot of chunks left behind from the placenta (saved my own life). my third child i started bleeding like a period when labor started and right through it, i was in an unusual amount of pain. the doctor started a pitocin drip and i shut it off. he got mad and said that he would have to do a c-section due to my lack of cooperation. guess what i saved my own life. when they did the c-section they found the placenta embeded into the uterus (accreta) and were able to scrape it out at that time and my post op was uneventful. my fourth child i made sure was an elective c-section, guess what no accreta. i felt safer having the c-section and i am glad that i had one. i used to be an l & d nurse. cannot predict the outcome of pregnancies and was surprised all of the time. :)
