Placenta Previa/vag bleeding

So you’re working at night in a hospital and have a placental previa patient. At 0200 she calls out to say she’s bleeding. What do you do? Besides going in to her and getting her back in bed?

1. Call for help depending on the amount of bleeding ( spotting vs hemorrhage)

  • assess bleeding and fetal heart rate
  • provide O2 if fetal heart rate warrants
  • obtain IV ACCESS
  • Obtains labs, CBC, type and cross, DIC again based on amt of bleeding
  • Gather toco lyrics if contracting
  • Call report
