Pittsburgh ICU nurses

I am interviewing at both Shadyside Neuro ICU and AGH's trauma ICU. I have been working at UPMC for the past three years on a cardiac unit and I am very excited to go to the ICU, I am just not sure which one. I shadowed at shadyside as a GN, but did not take the job, thinking I wasn't skilled enough as a new nurse to handle a neuro ICU. I don't know much about AGH, so if anyone works for or used to work for either of these hospitals I would appreciate any pros/cons you might have for me to make a decision. Thanks!

Specializes in PACU.

My cousin works at AGH on a trauma/med surg floor. Not ICU. She's happy, for the most part. She has a great NM, she makes it a nice place for the employees. Don't know about the specific unit you're asking about though.

From my POV, pay seems pretty low, she has to pay for parking, but she's happy. She LOVES trauma.

Hi SandraDeeRN,

I am just wondering if you ended up taking the job at AGH's trauma ICU. I am in my last semester of nursing school at Pitt and I have been in the ER at Presby working with the Trauma team - and LOVING it. I love trauma. However, I want to care for patient's *after* they leave the ED, up in an intensive care setting. If you are there, do you like it? Is there any way I could come and shadow there some time?

Thanks so much!

Specializes in SICU, MICU, BURN ICU, Trauma, CTICU, CCU.

I would go to Trauma at AGH if you had the option!
