You’re def not!

Im so happy for everyone! I too started my pursuit in 2013 but had to put things on hold. went for a completely different degree instead, and then found myself back here. Nursing is like the number one profession that people go for when they make midlife changes and I embrace that! We can all do this. and Sarah, Crystal is right. Medical assisting is great so congrats on that! But if you still want to be a nurse one day its literally never too late. Cannot wait to meet some of you in person this fall! ❤️

I actually was able to get home early but like Sarah same here. I did not get into the nursing program but I did get into the Medical Assistant program as well. I am still excited for the rest of you! ? that’s a great thing!

Thanks for the congratulations! The same to you guys! I'm excited to meet you all this fall as well!

Lele, im sorry you didn't get into the nursing program but congrats on your medical assistant! Youre gonna rock at it!

I’m so sorry lele ♥️  Congratulations on the medical assistant program! Sending you hugs

Hey guys! I just wanted to inform y'all that I am a senior at Pitt Community College. I graduate in May 2021 and I am currently in my 3rd semester. I came on this site just to see what new freshmen may be coming along. I am so happy for you guys who got in!! And for those who did not...don't lose hope. If your meant to be a nurse it will happen. There are people who have gotten into the program and could not make it pass 1st semester who ended up flunking out and reapplying again. Some of these same people are now in their 3rd semester, which we are currently wrapping up. Again, I am so excited for you guys and I wish you all nothing, but the best! If there's anything you guys would love to know about the program I will see if I can answer some of you guys questions as accurately as possible.

Hey! Thanks so much for the encouragement! It's si appreciated. I would love to get the inside scoop LOL. Are there any tips that you can give going into the first semester? Thanks in advance!

Your welcome! Also, I noticed an error in my post I actually graduate next year...May 2022. However, first and foremost!.....Stay on top of everything and do not get behind. Nursing school is not the time or place to procrastinate. You must take it seriously. There are some people who don't have to study as hard and make good grades, but if you know you are not one of those then you really need to buckle down. Nursing school is hard, but doable. Also, make Youtube your best friend! NursingSOS really helped me learn how to study, because most of the time people who flunk out don't know how to study correctly. She helped me so much! I also recommend RegisteredNurse RN she is really good with helping you comprehend material or practice skills that you might not understand and she has little quizzes and things that you can take in order to see where you stand. Practice lots & lots of NCLEX style questions. I actually practice a lot of Saunders NCLEX style questions. Make Saunders your best friend and purchase a book. It comes with a code in which you can get a bank of NCLEX questions online to practice with. If you can make some friends that will really help also in helping you get through the program. Somebody might can give you some advice on studying or whatever that you might find helpful, but if you can't then you can sign up for a subscription like simple nursing. I use simple nursing...I actually have a subscription only cost $39 a month and super helpful. With Covid going on it's going to be kind of difficult to make friends so probably start a groupchat if you can possibly with people in your lab/clinical group. When you go to lab for skills know your stuff!! Many instructors are very serious about lab and if you don't know your stuff then it could possibly be a bad day for you. Last but not least dose calc is basically a medication test using basic math. You must know how to calculate medication correctly.  You are given three try's to make at least a 90% or greater or you get booted from the program. You have to take this test every semester and make at least a 90% or above to continue on. Tutors will be made available in helping you study so take advantage! The instructors will go into more detail. You must have a planner this is important as well. With everything going on it can be difficult to stay organized without one. Overall, this is a good program once you get the hang of things. If you want to know anything else just let me know.

Thank you so much for this! Is the dose calc test given at the end of each semester? Also, how are clinicals?

Your welcome! The dose calc test is usually given around October in the first semester. In 2nd semester and so on it's given within the first couple of days. As far as clinicals I'm not sure since you guys are coming in as freshman if you will go into a hospital setting the 1st semester, because when I was a freshman we had clinicals at the school, but starting second semester we were allowed at the hospital. If you have ever worked as an NA then clinicals aren't that much different from what NA's do, but as a nurse or student nurse you are able to do more like administering medication to the patient and other things within your scope of practice as a student nurse. Some procedures you won't be able to do unless you are around your instructor, but they will tell you more about it. If you go into a hospital setting just know what you can do and can't do as a student nurse without your instructor and you should be just fine. Learn to study ahead of time if you can if you know clinicals are coming up that same  week. Clinicals are every week.
