hi everyone! im a newbie here. i just want to ask if is it okay to write the CNO for assessment even if you do not have any visa yet? i am a registered nurse here in the philippines and wanted to go to canada. even my aunt is willing to help me but she doesnt know how to get me there.

i have a year of hospital experience. is it enough guys? i dont have any clue to start my application. your advise will be of great help to me. GOD bless..(:

You need to read cno's website. Most will start with assessment but will not issue a license without proof of residency

Hi! I hope i may enlighten you on your concern by sharing my experience. I too am a Pinoy! :) I arrived here in Canada with a Permanent Resident Visa March of this year. When I was still in the Philippines, I researched as much as I can about becoming a nurse in Ontario. I don't mean to discourage you but so as not to be overwhelmed, like I am right now.... let me share you this:

>One of the requirements of the CNO is that you have a work permit here, Canadian citizen, or a Permament Resident status.

>I started myy application for the RN assessment to write the test May 2012. I was told that it would take up to 6 months for the first part of assessment. On this first part, they will be evaluating your school credentials. 6 months! I thought that was too long.. but then, since I am a newcomer, I was filled with optimism... then thought 6 months isn't that bad.

> September I received a letter, requesting for my registration and work employment records. FYI, the documents have to be sent from the institutions directly to the CNO. You will need to have a point person who can facilitate this with you since it will be hard to follow up from overseas. Please prepare yourself because on this second part of the assessment, they have no time frame. I have been advised that it usually takes about 2 years to get an assessment whether you are eligble to take thhe exam or need upgrade your schoool credentials. I inquired with York University, 95% of the time, the result would advise you to take a bridging program which is another 2 years and about 12k$.

I worked as an Emergency Staff nurse with St luke's Medical Center in Global City for 2.5 years.. Right now.. I feel so frustrated that I am left in the dark.. feeling stuck... can't go forward, because in order to go to school for the bridging program.. the school will still need the assessment of CNO.. which also takes about the same time.

I just came from the CNO office this morning and started a new application for Registered Practical Nurse.. hoping to be able to take the exam on May 2013, practice as RPN while waiting for my RN application.

whew.. I may have shared more than youre asking.. but I hope i have enlighten you in some way and all others there seeking this path...

I also have to mention that I sought help from the local government here to investigate or contact the CNO why they have no time frame for the second part of the assessment.. hoping that they could set standards for the CNO's way of evaluating internationally educated nurses.. but CNO is not cooperating with them.

HI nmlola thank you for these tips. A friend of mine who is in Canada right now told me that by next year they will include the assessment of CNO's application for immigrant.

Should I apply as immigrant first or to write to CNO for assessment? Does years of experience as RN here in the Philippines is needed to apply for assessment for CNO?

I really don't know where to start, i cheched some agencies here in the Philippines but they told me if i will choose FSW my points is not yet enough. Other agency also told me that i am qualified to apply for study visa. Im so confused about these things. my aunt also can't help me because she have no idea about getting me in canada but she is willing to help me just to get there.

Check the CIC route. For FSW route you need a minimum of 12 months full time experience. Student visa is going through some changes and what will you study?

i believe you need to start on your visa first. but i like i said it will take a lot of your time and you need funds to support your stay here while waiting for cno's assessment when you get here.

research on the cic.gc.ca website.. see if your aunt is eligible to sponsor you.

Hi there,..,,I'm taking the Cprne next month January and I'm freaking out right now,.,I didn't read books in my preparations. I only take those practice exams that i have and the prep guide,. And if there's something that confused or something that I kinda forget from what I've learned then that's the time I used books or google.,:( I know in myself that its not good enough but I don't have time to read books I'm like 3weeks before the exam and very anxious,..,can you give me some tips, advice or anything that can help me to be more prepared and ready to face the exam,.,

hi! i'm new and my first post. hoping that it will be enlighten me with my future plans. I am a filipino registered nurse. I am planning to apply to move to Canada through FSW . Is it possible that I can take my test for CRNE with FSW? I want to be a registered nurse in Canada. I read loads of information and got confused on which is which. Need all your advice based with your experience.
