hello, I looking into the Pima Community College Associates degree in Nursing program, of course like everyone else I have read about their long wait list, I was wondering if anyone knew if I had a better chance of getting done quicker if I go through their PN program and then transfer into the associates degree program....it states on their website that
"Licensed Practical nurses with work experience, including graduates from Pima's Center for Training and Development, are eligible to apply for entry into the second year of the Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program by completing the prerequisites listed above"
has anyone tried this route vs. waiting on their long (up to two years !) wait list?
just some background I am 27 years old and have never gone to college, in high school i never took the SAT's or ACT's (thats the reason I am looking into CC vs a University) and my grades in High School were never the best (due to lack of effort not lack of understanding) ....I really don't want to wait two years to get into a program because my goal is to eventually obtain a Masters in Nurse-Midwifery and adding an additional two year wait onto what already seems like forever in school (6 years) is just disheartening
thanks!

I guess it depends on what they consider "work experience". If they mean at least a year, then you would have to get your LPN, work a year, then start back up again.
Seems like if that is the case, you don't really save too much time. I'm not saying this to discourage at all, just read the fine print and find out how much work experience they want till you're eligible to start that 2nd year. Good luck!

You can go right into third semester as an LPN, especially if you obtained your LPN from Pima. You have to take a 6 week transition course first, which can usually be taken over a summer.
Note: The LPN program requires the same pre-reqs which can take about 2 years to complete, so I'd get started on those ASAP.
Last I checked, the LPN program also had a wait. So I'd get working on the prereqs.
I knew several people who did this route.
