Hello,
I am interested in both, Piedmont Atlanta Hospital and Grady Memorial Hospital. Does anyone currently work at either of these facilities? If so, how is it? Also, I am set to graduate in May and am considering applying to both of their residency programs. How competitive is it getting in? What's the pay for new grads?

I would say apply to both. It is so competitive out there for new nurses that you don't want to put all your eggs in one basket. It definitely depends on the area of nursing you want to get into as far as which facility would benefit you most. For example, if you wanted to work with high acuity cardiac patients, Piedmont Atlanta would be the obvious choice. However, if you wanted to do trauma or neuro, Grady (Level I Trauma Center) would be better. In the Metro Atlanta area, most of your really sick patients are shipped to Grady, Emory, or Piedmont. Or CHOA for peds. From what I've heard, new grad pay is now generally $23-$25/hr before diffs.
I really appreciate the information you have provided! It was very helpful. I am currently wrapping up this semester and my instructor asked students to submit their practicum preferences (I attend school in Macon), so I chose Grady because I figured it would give me a greater chance of being accepted into their nurse residency program. Unfortunately, Grady was unable to accommodate us because they currently have 1,000 students who need to be placed but not enough preceptors. So I am trying my luck by submitting my practicum request to Piedmont Atlanta, which I think they will not be able to accommodate us either being that I go to school in Macon and they give priority to students who attend school in the Atlanta area (I could be wrong). Even if I don't get Piedmont for practicum, do you think that I still could have a chance for being chosen for Grady or Piedmont's nurse residency program? I would love to land an ER position. I currently work in two ERs as a tech, which one of them is a trauma 1 hospital.
Yes you can still get into the residency. Grady and atlanta medical have level 1 trauma centers, so the patients coming through the ER. Have you considered Emory ed? They also see a variety of patients. I would also consider the orientation length when looking at residency programs. Piedmont has a short program compared to other hospitals in atlanta.
