I'm interested in learning to insert PICCS so I can contract my services in the area...anyone have any suggestions or referrals? Anybody here do this or know someone who does? I had a referral at one point but lost it...dang! :chuckle
R U in Ft. Worth? If so I use to work at Plaza Medical in FTW. We contracted a PICC line service. The RN who owned the company had a couple of employees and more business then she could handle. Let me know if you want more info. I can't remember her co. name off the top of my head but could probably get it for you if your interested and in the area.
Yes I am in the Fort Worth area and would LOVE any info you could pass on to me!! Thanks so much! This just sounds like an ideal job for me...I am burned out on traditional patient care/bedside work but THIS I could do! :)
I work with a supervisor who inserts PICC lines--DFW area (Arlington). Would you like me to fish around for some info? She has been a nurse around here forever, so I am assuming she picked up the PICC skills around here somewhere.
Hi there...I'm so excited...didn't know there were so many other Allnurses from this DFW area....nice to know this!
I used to live in Arlington myself...if you could find a contact for me I would greatly appreciate any info you have! Thanks so much!
We have such a great group of nurses here don't we...so much help and encouragement! :)
Also if your contacts would prefer to call me I'll be happy to PM you guys my info email address etc. :)

Hey Mattsmom: I currently place PICC's for a Radiology Company (PRN), usually 5-8 days amonth. I get 125.00 per picc (successfull or not) usually these are in a Nursing Home or Rehab hospital, and rarely in a patients home.My incorporation is in Nevada, I did almost all of it myself, with alittle help from a CPA.
Good luck----BP
Very interesting...I had not thought of radiology companies managing this. sounds like you've got a great part time job, which is what I'm looking for too.
Now the first hurdle I have is to get certified...LOL!

Hi there and thanks so much for responding to my post!
If your supervisor can refer me to a training site or other contact, I sure would appreciate the info! Does she work for the facility or contract independently? I would love to be an independent contractor (but first have to learn how to do PICC lines...LOL)
At any rate she probably knows someone who trains and I would appreciate any info you could pass on to me! Please PM or email me via AllNurses, If she would prefer to speak to me by phone or smail mail let me know and I'll send it.
Thanks again!! :balloons: :chuckle

Update: I have located a training resource through a BARD query kindly recommended by another poster here. They have clinical specialists and local coordinated training programs to guide nurses through the certification process in their area.
medical.services @crbard.com
Link for anyone else interested in this specialty.
Thanks everyone for your kindness in helping 'potential entrepeneur' get started.

Actually BARD has an on-line course that you can take, then you need someone to precept you. In the past it has always been three successful sticks, but since we have evolved to u/s at the bedside, the training is a little more intense. Contacting your local BARD rep is always a good place to start.
