So I got hired at the VA as an SNT and I need to do a physical. My problem is that my BP is really high and I am trying to lower it naturally. Being that I am 5'5 and 230 pounds. Is this going to be a problem?

Depends on your time line to see if the goal is realistic. Depends on what you consider natural. Depends on your BP change needed.
Best of luck.

That's a BMI of 38. You are a few pounds from qualifying for gastric bypass surgery and you are seriously asking if there is a "natural way" to lower BP? The JNC7 says, yes of course there is. Unfortunately, it's diet and exercise.
Sorry, I wasn't asking whether I could lower it but rather if I wouldn't be hired because of it.

You can do some natural things to help your blood pressure, such as trying to cut back on sodium, and absolutely relaxing when you have your blood pressure test...and I mean thinking in your mind that your body is so relaxed and you are a noodle. Stress and emotions can raise that number too, and it sounds like every little bit will help. Practice with your eyes closed. It works!
So, if you are a VA employee, but not active duty/reserves in the military, I would think that you would need to have it controlled via meds. They probably don't want you stroking out on the floor! I don't know how high yours is, but try those simple things. Practice at the store with those machines and you will see how the biofeedback really works! I would cut out most of your sodium before your test. If your blood pressure is pretty high, they may be hesitant until you are controlled. Just thoughts. I don't have any specifics on the rules. Best of wishes!!!
