PHSC 2016 Nursing Hopefuls

Published

Going to jumpstart this topic!

Good Luck to all the 2016 hopefuls!

I had my md office order the labs so I could get them done through quest and have it billed to my insurance

Okay, I joined all nurses after my first application(which lead to my first rejection). I have since applied for 3 more transition cycles (including this most recent one) and this time I even threw my name into the hat for the 2 generic programs. Not to be petty, but $150 to be repeatedly told, "I'm not worthy". This is not the encouraging sort of talk I got, when I went into advisement a few years ago. They were like...take A&P2 w/lab, Microbiology w/lab and Windows 101 (or as they call it--Micro Apps). I was insane to take those 2 sciences together, but at least I got all B's that semester!! I have been getting all A's every since. I get 74s and 75s on the TEAS tests, which I have taken 4 times total. And when I punch out my composite score with the formula I saw earlier in the thread...my composite comes out to a 74.625. Thus when I look at the scores above, I'm just a tad curious why I wasn't even offered an "alternate" spot. I must be some sort of masochist to keep applying! A bit more about me: I have had my AA since 2000 and I have been an LPN since 2003. I have had mostly post cardiac surgery, med/surg/oncology and hospice experience. I went on hiatus to get my kids through high school, who graduated in 2012, 2013 and 2015 respectively. And so I have been taking college courses applicable to my goal of becoming an RN (currently that entails retaking nutrition, because I got a high C in it in 2002). I'm sorry for the rant, but I just want to say for anyone frustrated by this process...you are so not alone! My kids have all finished high school ( 1 went into the military and the other two are in college themselves). This would be the ideal time to further my life, but after this semester, I'm stuck! I can't take any more classes or even declare a major at PHSC anymore, given that I have all the credits up to the co-requisites for the BSN program. Sigh...it's not even the ADN I want, I want to go further, but it feels like a maddening application process and 2 semesters of clinicals are simply unconquerable obstacles. Keep the faith people! I'm in it with you!

I feel your frustration... my composite isn't as high though so I kind of was thinking there was definitely a possibility I wouldn't get in this time.. with your composite I'm confused as too how you didn't get in.. there must be something missing?? Anyway this coming fall will be my 5th time applying.. this really is what you deal with when going to a regular college vs a private college where you can get in tomorrow if you want to spend 3 times the amount of money.. just keep trying and one day it'll happen :-)

If anyone needs or knows someone that needs to take the Teas again, I am selling my ati study manual. Let me know.

Is everyone getting excited for the semester only a little over a month!!!! Everyone buy any of the list yet?

I am excited. I plan on buying my supplies soon. So it looks like the generic RN program at Porter has 1 day of academics on Mondays and 2 days of clinical. Does anyone here plan on still working full time?

I plan on working only the wknd and getting a rhythm of how things go until I commit back to full time. I plan on taking microbiology and the fundamentals luckily for me after the micro class all my others are the core classes so I could work full time every other semester. Where do you plan on getting supplies I'm thinking of getting my stethy at allheart

Also does anyone know about nursing bags? Will we need one of those I hear so many other nursing students talk about them but not on the list

Good luck to you all! :-)

Was anybody charged for their fingerprints? It says it is included in our tuition but is asking for my credit card info. I've been in contact with certified profile and daon and I'm just getting the run around. If anyone could help that would be awesome!!

I think it asks for your cc Info but doesn't charge you. It said $64 or something around that figure for background check and FP...but it never charged my card. Im trying my best to get everything done by Tuesday, but it doesnt look promising. :(

Does anyone know if they will allow us extra time to get everything done?

I managed to get everything done the first week of novemeber. So you should be fine but I did everything mon-thur. So you might have a harder time bc of wknd
