Hi :) I am currently a nursing student (ADN) and have Phlebotomy Tech certification through NHA (national healthcareer association) It expires in a couple months and I am questioning if I should renew it or not.
It costs $160 and consists of taking a few online CE courses (approx an hour total of my time)
I don't plan on being hired as a phlebotomist, as I'm going to be an RN.
Should I just pay the $$$ and renew? Will it give me an extra "boost" when I graduate/pass boards and am searching for my first job?
Thank you in advance for your input :)
Anyone?

I don't know how far along you are in your schooling but if you plan to work as a phleb while going to school you should renew, if not then I wouldn't renew.

In my opinion, the certification means nothing. If you're a skilled phlebotomist, that may be helpful depending on where you seek employment (in 2 of my 3 EDs, the nurses do all the blood draws; in the 3rd, there are phlebotomists - which appeared very wasteful)
Thanks!! I think it's pretty useless certification, it was good to go to school and learn about it and practice pokes but, I don't think I'll be paying to keep a card that says I'm "certified"
I graduate in May 2014 and don't plan on working until then....
