U.S.A. Oklahoma

It's me again...I know I keep posting questions, but I always research this first before posting. Since it is important I start working as soon as possible, yet I still would like to be a nurse, I have decided to look into becoming a phlebotomist here in tulsa so that I can get on with a hospital with tuition re-imbursement for college. So even though it might take me 6 freakin years to be an RN, at least I would bringing some much needed income into my house being a phlebotomist. How much are they paid here in tulsa? I heard it was almost as much as a medical assistant. Is this true? The class hourse are perfect at CCC Friday and Saturday 9-5, so I wouldnt need much daycare. This also might give me a look into what nurses deal with as I would like to work in a hospital setting. Does this sound like a good idea?:uhoh3:

I worked in donor phlebotomy and apheresis while going to nursing school and I did benefit from the hospital's tuition reimbursement program, so I agree that it's a good idea.

Go to search.yahoo.com and type in 'phlebotomist Tulsa', then click on the first link (salary.com), which will give you phlebotomist salary information for several Oklahoma cities including Tulsa.

I tried that...is there something wrong with my browser? I went through like 50 pages and couldn't find an answer :( Thanks for the encouragement!

I was offered a position with the plebotomy dept at Hillcrest. They said starting out I would make $8.90 / hr. I turned it down, as I had a better offer elsewhere.

Thanks for the info guys. I just learned that my federal aid will not cover the course because it's only 5 months and they won't cover a course that small...weird.

Specializes in Level III cardiac/telemetry.

What about taking it at TCC or TTC? It would be cheaper there to pay out of pocket. At TCC, I think it's also offered as a summer class (won't be listed on the website, but will be in the printed schedule). You have to take the 3 hour lecture and 2 hour internship. If you figure @ $75 per hour, it's less than $400.
