Nurses General Nursing

How long after graduation did it take to find a job? I have been out of school since December and passed the boards in February. I've had one in person interview which I did not get after taking two days off for orientation and the interview, one video interview that I'm waiting to hear back on, and I have one shadow/interview coming up next week. I've had a few rejection emails just from application submissions. I keep telling myself that something good is on the way but I can't help but feel discouraged when I see former classmates get jobs. I juggled work, family and school for years busting my butt to get to this point and now I am feeling like I wasted my time.

so sad

It is the unfortunate consequence of the propagandized "nursing shortage" that enticed thousands and thousands of college students and second-career students to pursue a nursing degree with the false belief that it would be a quick ticket to a cushy salary and life-long job stability. Only to find out after graduation that the stories of sign-on-bonuses and phone calls from recruiters were the stuff of fantasy, and the only realities were student loan bills and dozens upon dozens of online applications advertising "experience required."

Well!

the good thing is that I have the stability and salary already and my employer paid my tuition, the bad thing is that I just don't want to do what I'm doing anymore but what you said is so very true.

I went through the same thing in the beginning. I graduated in 2015 May, and while I got offers for attractive hospital positions in other areas, it took me 9 months to land a job here in Philadelphia. It was in a SNF for Holy Redeemer Health System.

I got work through an agency when I got injured and even though it wasn't the nursing job I wanted, it put money in my pocket. Good money actually. Don't knock agency work, they can put you in low pressure jobs that can hold you till you get that job you want.

Now that I have a year experience, I get a million recruiters calling and emailing offering work every time I submit an application on a job site.

You will get your job and this waiting game will be ancient history!

yes! I hope after Monday that this waiting game is over!

Hello! I know the full time job is the goal but what about a seasonal position this summer? Many camps are hiring and offer housing, meals, good salary, travel stipend, and reimbursement for license. Also great experience if interested in working with children. With sometimes many nurses on staff, you get great exposure to other styles and learn a lot. Check out http://www.LWCGWC.com - if interested, contact [email protected].

Thank you for the lead but I can't! I work full time and have a family and I carry insurance for us all so I have to land a full time job or stay put!
