philippines to australia

i just passed the june 2008 board exam for nurses in the philippines and im kind of planning to work abroad but have no idea where to start. i found an agency here (the australian nurse student migration consultancy, owned by paul o'connor, an australian. he has a filipino wife that is a nurse there.) they have this package, wherein the following are included:

-assessment of documents and submission to the nursing council

-nursing council fee

-test A and B fees

-competency materials

-3 months health insurance

-processing and application for employer sponsorship and VISA (permanent residency is a separate cost)

-arranging tax file number

-arranging relocation to another employer when necessary -one way airfare

-VISA processing and VISA fee

-pick up from airport upon arrival

-4 weeks share accommodation including food

-advice on bank accounts

-orientation with new employer and we can contact them in case of an emergency

but im afraid they are asking AUS $9300 for this package. do you think this is worth it? is it better to do the processing on my own rather than making them do it? if ever i get to pass the test for registration, do i get to work already? what i don't understand is how does the employer sponsorship work? i also read that i have to study for two more years to be a nurse, is this true? what do i do first? i really need help :) thank you for taking time.

Much has already been written on this topic, please just do a search for the information.

That's too expensive. You can actually go on your own with this application and pay only for less than 4,000 AUD if you fail the part A exam. If you pass then you only have to pay less than 1000 AUD. That's a big savings. Please read this thread for information:

Good luck.

hi!! i just attended their seminar regarding that "help" to get employed in australia..

and i'm kinda doubting regarding the expenses involved... it was too much..

i searched POEA list on their site.. the thing is, they are not registered...

if you would like to see, visit POEA official site...

I don't think they will be registered in POEA because they are only a consultany company which aids in migration. I think Mr. Paul is a migration agent. They don't give you work but they have a contact agency in Australia for that so they are not really the ones recruiting. And as far as I know, the recruitment agencies are the only ones that needs to be registered with POEA. So, since they are just aiding with migration, they are not registered.

Then they are acting purely as a middleman, and no one does it for free.

This should add in more questions and not solve anything. They are only brokering you as a commodity.

Yes they do have a fee for the other services including the assistance with the bridging program and Visa Processing fees. However, for the employment, they don't charge for that since they are not the ones recruiting. And yes it does add more questions so make sure you do research well. There are always risks, so it's always good to have a well informed decision with this kind of things.
