Hi! Is PGH open for basic skills training for 2010? Thank you for the replies!!! God bless you!

hi! naguluhan naman ako bigla. is this APCN the same with manpooling in PGH? thanks for those who'll reply!

@pipau: APCN is a 6-month training program, it's different from the manpooling of PGH. The APCN program doesn't ensure you a slot in PGH, you still have to undergo the same process of applying as a staff nurse -- exams and interviews. But the experience that you'll gain from the training program will definitely help you a lot in the exam AND in your panel interview.

@diKALAmi: Yea the training fee for the next batch is now 14,900. :uhoh3:

so how did you apply for nursing? do you take online courses or you go to class rooms everyday?

hi johen026 and donnasoriano06.. as far as i can remember, the exam is composed of 4 types of tests.. first part is identification.. they will ask you to enumerate the normal values of the vital signs and other stuffs.. the 2nd part is composed of multiple choice questions mainly focusing on MS.. the 3rd part is drug computation part.. and the last part is enumeration.. they will ask you to enumerate the step by step procedures of suctioning and skin test i think.. the exam is time pressure.. you will only be given 50 minutes to answer all the questions.. from what i have heard, you should only commit less than 10 mistakes for you to pass.. im just not sure if it is true.. also, to give you an idea, the usual passing rate is less than 20%.. im not scaring you guys but usually, there are only 9 to 15 examinees who can pass this exam out of 50 examinees.. the exam really needs critical thinking and proper time management because most examinees weren't able to finish the exams due to its limited time.. Godbless you both and i hope that this reply somehow gave you an idea about the exam in PGH.. c=

Bleuler's right. :) They use the same exam for the staff nurse position through the years (Thankfully I read this thread before I took the exam). As for the panel interview, it depends. I was lucky because I was asked with personal questions, the girl interviewed after me was bombarded with nursing questions as soon as she sat down.

After the panel interview, we were immediately informed of our current status (whether we passed or failed the panel interview), then we were briefly oriented on the nursing services of PGH and reminded us to continue studying/attend seminars and training while waiting for our final interview. Good luck to all us, hope to see you guys in PGH! :)

hi thorabeech.. it's nice to hear that you passed your exam and the panel interview.. i passed my panel interview this january 2011 and i'm still waiting in vain for the final interview.. we really need to have a lot of patience.. Godbless.. c=

thanks drifterRN!

Goodluck and God bless to all!

anybody here who's going to take the exam on oct?

Specializes in ICU/MS.

God bless all of us nurses!

I'm about to take my exam this Aug.26, anyone who will be taking on the same date?

@bleuler: passed the interview just last july. Hopefully the sched for the final interview will be out very very soon. i had a co-interviewee who was a graduate of up cn, immediately after the panel, she was asked to come the next day for her final interview. I was so envious of her! But our time will come, we just have to be patient. Pgh is really worth the wait.

hi everyone. if only i knew this site back then, i wouldn't be on the rough road of my nursing career.. (sigh)

i had my final interview with the deputy director for nursing (ddn) last may2011, panel interview last september2010, exam of june 2010..

for the final interview, we were 10 interviewees then.. 9 of them were interviewed for about 5-10 minutes, mostly of personal and some nursing questions.. pay attention with your mannerisms, unnecessary arm movements, gait, posture and the manner you answer her questions since the ddn takes note of those-- A LOT.

unfortunately, it took me 35 minutes, that was according to my co-interviewees.. that's because of my case, being a registered nurse-midwife and registered medical technologist. nursing is my first course (2008), followed by midwifery and medical technology..

first, the ddn ask to describe myself.. followed by my future plans in 5, 10, and 15 years.. staffing formula since i do also have a masters degree in nursing.. conversion of celsius to farenheit vice versa, management of hepatic encephalopathy (i failed to answer this straightforwardly since my brain is already suffering from mental diarrhea), 10 rights of drug admin(i only managed to give 5), area of choice if accepted, reason why i took midwifery and medical technology, enumerate some parasites in the human body, and the ddn do also give a couple of clinical situations and ask me to answer using the nursing process.

i know to myself that i didn't give my best because anxiety blocked my senses.. "failed" entered my mind.. but, the ddn ask me to proceed to the hr dept for the orientation.. i was really happy then.. same happiness i felt when i passed my board exams..

i thought the hr would already ask me to sign the 3 year contract but she told me to complete some requirements for employment AND to wait again, maximum of 2 years since their priority were the graduates of University of the Philippines College of Nursing..

well, good things comes to those who wait. :)

@thorabeech.. you're right! PGH is worth this long wait.. hehe.. it is also true that they prioritize UPCN grads.. too bad we're not UP grads.. haha.. c=

@rnrmrmt.. congrats! you're just one step away! c=
