simply put, what's the job market like in philadelphia hospitals for new grads? i'm currently an lpn. i'll have 6 years subacute experience (as an lpn) when i graduate with my rn but i want to work in a hospital setting. thanks!!
In Philly its all about who you know and your work experience. It sucks but its the truth. Most hospitals are not hiring new grads anymore so you have to get your experience elsewhere. Some good news...there are plenty of nursing homes hiring especially in South Jersey. In fact try ones in and near Voorhees, NJ. They'll work you like a dog with their mandatory overtimes but hey its money and at least you'll get some experience. Also, go for the BSN! If you get the BSN plus the job experience you shouldnt have a problem getting a hospital gig especially if you want to work in the maternity ward. Believe or not there always hiring, especially at Jefferson but you deff need the BSN.
