Phentermine and drug testing

Hi all,

I'm an MA student who is almost finished (yay!) I'll be going out on my externship next month and hopefully have a job soon after that. My question is if I'm taking phentermine (that I got online because we are military and they won't give you anything like that on base) will it show up in drug test? I'd hate to fail it for something like that.

I've used it in the past and lost weight on it and then stopped taking it becase the Rx ran out and then we moved I got busy started school and now sit on my butt and eat out of the machine every day. It really controled my hunger I'd to use it again, but am afraid of what it will do to my future employment chances.

Also if it is found, what would it be classified as? a stimulent?

Yes, it can. The first test will probably be an immunoassay-type test. There can be false positives for methamphetamine or other amphetamines with the use of Phentermine.

The lab should order a GC/MS next for further specifics. Phentermine will not test positive for meth and amphetamines with this test.

You must be honest and present the prescription upon testing.

Thank you very much for the reply. I'm sitting here on pins and needles wondering!!! So it will be ok if I present the bottle of meds? I certainly don't want to be taken for a drug user! But I know what works for my body and this does. When it warms up I will be back to walking and when done with school next month I will be back in pool. ( used to be a swimmer) Just need to focus on school for now.

If you have a written script, you could present this. Either way, you need to show you have current legal verification from a licensed provider to actually be taking this medication.

Hi there,

I took a drug test in July 2005 and today. I have been taking phentermine since 2004. Prior to taking the test, I disclosed that I was taking phentermine, the hospital health services made a copy of the prescription bottle and that was the last time I heard about it. As long as you have a "legal" prescription, there should be no problem. However, it will show up on the drug test because it's a stimulant.

Would flexaril show up as anything?
