So I'm taking pharmacology this qrt. Right now I'm in my school's library kind of bummed out. I'm reading the chapter on drugs to treat hypertension. Theres all these new things being introduced to me that are kind of freaking me out a little. All the various drugs used to treat hypertension. Beta blockers, diruetics, calcium channel blockers, ACE inhibitors, Alpha-1 Adrenergic blocking agents, etc. etc. etc.

How in the hell am I supposed to know the drugs for these different types of hypertensive medication categories?!!!

And that's just one category of drugs. So, this will only help a little but notice that beta blockers end in 'lol. ACE inhibitors end in 'pril. Think of the most common side effects. Like with ACE inhibitors, users get a really annoying cough and sometimes people will stop taking drugs because of it. Try to understand how each works. Know the most common drug prescribed in each category. You won't know them all.

Specializes in Labor and Delivery.

Same way we all did lol! Don't look ahead, it's always intimidating. Everyone feels that way about pharm I think but we all get through and so will you. One thing that helped me was to really understand teh disease because tehn you will understand or even guess if you forget what a drug is at least supposed to do. Also what helped me was to really understand what the different receptors worked on and what side effects they gave. Good Luck!
