Pharmacology and Texas SONs

Published

would like to ask if there are any texas nursing students/srnas out there and if you looked at several different texas nursing schools before you chose. right now i'm looking at going to the one that is located closest to me (umhb) which is attached to a level 1 trauma center (scott & white) but i'm worried about the curriculum. pharmacology is not a required course in order to start the nursing program there and at most other schools, there is at least an intro class given before you start (for ex. ut @ austin son). i'm freakin' out about this because i want to get the best education possible as i plan to go on for crna certification later. could choosing a school with no requirement for pharm hurt me in the long run?? :uhoh21:

i wasn't sure where to post this on the forum, any direction would be greatly appreciated. tia

I looked at your curriculum and it seems that Pharmacology is integrated into each of the specific courses. It seems that in Adult I and II, you get pharmacological aspects of this group as well as when you take Maternal health, Peds, and Mental Health nursing. Should you take a pharm class before nursing starts? If you find one, it may not hurt. Check with the program to see what the pass/fail rate is on nursing boards or ask the Dean if taking a pharm class would be in your best interests.
