Pharmacology

So, I was looking at my school, which I start the ADN this fall and I'm sad that the Pharmacology classes are only offered online. I dislike online classes, I love to be in class where I thrive better. In my ADN program we have Pharmacology every semester during the program. So Pharmacology I - Pharmacology IV. I was wondering if any other schools out there only offer pharmacology online?

That's odd that it would only be offered online. For our BSN program, all our classes are in person & I don't think we can take them online. However, since pharm is pretty much just memorization, I think if you just make note cards or whatever works for you, you can get through it :)

Pharmacology really is just a lot of memorization. So it shouldn't be too bad to take online. Its a very difficult class though due to the amount of information you must know. Note cards and making charts will be very helpful to you. Its nice though that you take the class in a series of class though so you don't get overwhelmed by taking it all at once. You should also buy a supplemental study book besides your text book. Sometimes its easy to get lost in all the technical words in your text book. There's a TON of them out there. I've heard good things about "Nursing Pharmacology Made Incredibly Easy". You can probably get it on Amazon.

My pharm class was online. I think a lot of schools do that because all a school needs for pharm is a book and a powerpoint. They get to save money.

I took Pharm online. It's do-able. It's a LOT of information to memorize!!! You have to be structured and organized to get through it with an A. If it wasn't for our supplemental instruction, I don't think I would have ended up with an A. Make sure you watch your power-point lectures and take copious notes. Read, read, read...and read some more. I found making flash cards of each drug worked the best. Generic name, trade name, Indications, Adverse Effects, Contraindications, Nursing Implications, Drug-Drug and/or Food-Drug Interactions.

Thank you all for the helpful hints and making me feel more at ease about an online course :)

I also thought that breaking it down to 1 pharm class per semester great.

I personally thought pharm was one of the easier classes I had to take. I made an A. (I finished the semester with a 96) The material is a lot of memorization. Yet, do your best to actually learn what the meds do, side effects, etc. as opposed to purely memorizing.
