Pharmacology HELP!!!

Published

I guess it has been a long time. I am needing help in two areas. One how to calculate Body surface area???

Here is a pharm question and I am lost.

A dose of 500 mg in a volume of 3 mL ir ordered to dilute 55 mL to infuse over 50 minutes. A 20 mL flush to follow.

What is the dilution volume?

How many gtts/min should the IV infuse at? Microdrip?

mL HOUR?

ANYONE WITH AN UNDERSTANDING PLEASE HELP

The problem is not very clearly written, but my best guess would be as follows:

Dilution Volume: 3 mL + 55 mL =
58 mL

Infusion Rate:
55 mL/50 minutes
(infusion rate)
x 60 gtts/mL
(drop rate of microdrip tubing)
=
66 gtts/minute
(infusion rate) to be followed by the 20 mL flush
