Pharm Madness- Nursing Student's Cry

Published

Hello all, I am currently in the nursing program at UofL and start my clinicals in Jan. If I get into upper divsion. I am having a really hard time with Pharm. I have always been a over achiever and gotten great grades. I am the type that doesnt give up until my goal is achieved but lately this class has me discouraged. I got a lot going on in my life right now so im trying to balance everything. I guess in a way this is my cry for help. I need advice on how i can make Pharm. a little easier to understand and get drilled into my head. Does anyone have any studying tricks or tips that helped them survive pharm? Seems like i been killing myself and I just cant get it. Thanks everyone in advance for your help.

Attached are 12 Word documents which I made when I took pharmacology. All the information was based on the ATI study guide since that constituted the final exam in our class.

They are formatted as 3x5 cards and were printed on individual 3x5 cards.

Have at 'em if you think they'll help... they certainly worked for me.

Again, they are entirely my own creation based on the information out of the ATI book. I make no promises as to their accuracy (though I rocked pharm so they couldn't be too bad).

Feedback is welcome.

I cannot more highly recommend a resource than Lippincott's Illustrated Review of Pharmacology. It is concise and very readable.

And by all means, use my flashcards early and often... 5-10 minutes here and there adds up quickly.

All good tips above. I also recommend two things: 1) consider dropping some activity in your social life that is stressing you out at present. You can return to it later. 2) review verbally the data with classmates

This is not an easy topic so do not beat yourself up. It will come in time. Good luck!

Mosbys Pharmacology review cards with visual mneumonics have been helpful for me. When possible, I also try to think of a family member or friend who has been on the drug and then use them as a template for remembering all the possible side effects. Not as helpful if everyone around you is super healthy, but nursing material always comes easier when I can connect it to something Ive experienced. Good luck!
