Hi
I am 5 feet tall and weigh about 96 pounds. Am I fit to be a nurse? Would my size make me less likely to be hired? Do nurses do lots of lifting and transferring people around?
Thanks.
There's no problem with short nurses! I carry a long blunt-end drumstick in my bag so I can turn off tv's if needed. On my old unit the monitors were too high to reach so I carried a stick in my clipboard for that. I know where the stepstools are, where the seamstresses in town are (hemming my pants), and how to hogtie people that are bigger than me. :-)
I'm 4'10". I work with all sizes of nurse. The tall people have a worse time with their backs, or so it seems to me. My partner and I are always mismatched (tall/short) so we have to pay attention not to pull people up crooked in bed. It doesn't matter what weight you are, you'll grow some muscle once you start hoisting people and running your tootie off.

I'm 4'11 & weigh 95-96lbs not only Im I an ICU nurse for years but I'm also an officer in the Army Nurse Corps.
Size has nothing to do with the best way you can do the job. I use stools all the time.
