Personal letter for entrance to the nursing progam

Published

I need advice with writing my personal letter for admission to the nursing program. The requirements are 500 words or less stating why I want to be a nurse and why did I choose Georgia Gwinnett College to get my degree

The part where I need advice with is why do I want to be a nurse. I know why I want to be a nurse, but I don't know how it sounds to others. Basically, what I want to say is I want this because it is what I know I am supposed to do with my life. I want to help people who cannot help themselves. I want to be the person who helps others, just like the nurses who helped my grandma (Mama, she raised me) when she was dying from congestive heart failure. I want to be any of my four labor and delivery nurses, who guided me, held my hand and helped me when I had no clue how to push out a baby or couldn't walk from the epidural. Or the NICU nurses, who saved my youngest at two days old. I want to be a nurse. It is really the only thing I've ever wanted to be, other than a time when I was 12 and wanted to be Madonna.

That is off the top of my head, I know it needs work. But that's the basics of what I think when I think of writing this. Anyone out there have any advice? If I don't say that, I have no clue what to say. Thank you for your time.

Please be aware that you can't sign RN behind your name until you have successfully passed your NCLEX licensure. It's a big NO-NO!!

You'll need to consider another name.

As for your nsg school application, just know that nsg isn't all just about being a 'helping' angel like you're sounding. Honestly, that expectation just isn't too realistic in today's professional environment. You may be setting yourself up for failure with unrealistic expectations and an admissions review committee may sense that just as easily as I did. You aren't going to be the second Saint Mother Theresa.

I'd emphasize more that you find nsg education to be an interesting challenge in nsg arts & science. You've had positive experiences in your past which has positively influenced your opinion of nsg as a profession and people-focused.

Remember that they want to know why you're interested in GGC specific. Maybe their Mission Statement appealed to you. Your found their curriculum to be interesting. You've met some alumni and were impressed with their enthusiasm and knowledge (BE HONEST if you really know someone. Don't fudge this - they might just ask you "WHO"). The college is close by and would facilitate your ability to devote more time to school than just commuting time (you can be honest about this one). You had strong grades in your current school and feel that their curriculum will be a good match. Etc, etc, etc.

Be honest and avoid mushy superlatives (you'll sound phoney-baloney.)

Good luck to you, but remember to change your name.

Thank you for your advice. I realized how I was coming across, and knew that was flawed. I just needed some direction. I am working on changing my screen name, I can't seem to find the place to do that.

Anyone else have any advice?
