Hello everyone, I have been a nurse for 10 years and I've done a few travel assignments of my specialty: telemetry, oncology, medsurg. I am itching to get out of my state again, but I would like to get some ED experience and then travel as an ED nurse. My local hospital is only a level 2, and besides, I do not want to work in their ED for numerous reasons. I've noticed that alot of travel agencies offer temp/perm placement. Would this be for someone who wants to get experience in a certain specialty for x months and then leave to travel? Could someone like me, with no ED experience, get a temp ED job via agency? Do any of u know what perks come with being a temp?

The short answer is no. Training in a new specialty is definitely not one of the perks so forget about it. Find yourself a good internship at a teaching hospital and expect a two year commitment to be trained in the ER (also the recommended minimum experience to be good and competitive as a traveler).
