perioperative internships? Or ICU internships?

Published

Hello all,

I graduate in March and am looking for advice. I don't feel like my clinical skills are very good because all my patients on my rotations have been pretty healthy! So I've never taken care of really sick people and haven't gotten to do some of the basic nursing skills.

So I want a longer internship than the normal 6 week orientation. Do any of you know of hospitals that have long internships in anything other than med/surg?

Also, sorry to sound stupid but what does MICU and SICU stand for? I know it's some kind of ICU there are so many initials out there that it gets confusing!

Specializes in Cardiac.

MICU is a medical ICU and SICU is a surgical ICU. Most ICU internships are 4 months long.
