When it comes to the negative outcome of patient because nurse was asked to rotate to an unfamiliar unit, should the hospital send the nurse to the Peer Review Committee before reporting to the Board? Is there any Board rule regarding it?

Is this a real situation or homework? What was the bad outcome ? Did you review BoN guidelines? Which state?
It's homework, and patient died. I reviewed the guidelines but only process to report to BON and to peer view, didn't see anything about if should be peer review before BON. I am in Texas.
Sounds like an ethical of fundamental questions rather than a regulatory question. What are your thoughts? Have you tried contacting the BoN and explaining your homework question? Other students have called TX BoN and were successfully guided to BoN regulations if they existed.

Technically the BON is peer review. Peer review is usually within the hospital and the decision on whether or not to report the nurse to the BON is made here...it is hospital policy rather than a BON action.
