Our hospital wants to be Magnet status, so is involving the staff in peer interviews. We have a hot shot new nurse who wants to "test" the applicant during the peer interview with different scenarios. I'm not sure that this is the appropriate time for that, and feel that it should be done sometime other than during the peer interview. We have gotten a list of interview questions from management, but they seem wooden and generic. Do you have any suggestions for more appropriate questions? I work in a mixed 20 bed critical care unit, we have all kinds of different patients.
Thanks

when I interviewed for an OR position they did a session of staff interviewing as well, I remember a couple of questions they asked me: Do you consider yourself passive or aggressive? What do you think is your "weak" spot? Hope these kind of help.

We just had peer interviews for our new management position. Some of the questions we asked were:
-What would your co-workers consider to be your strengths and weaknesses?
-Why are you interviewing for this position?
-Name a leadership process you have been involved with.
-What would you consider to be a challenge in this new position?
Just a few off the top of my head, hope they help.

When I interviewed for an ICU position at a VA I was asked
"Can you explain how you would "handle" or manage a peer who had a difficult personality?"
"What does Nursing mean to you?"
"The majority of our Veterans are from WWII /Korean War and thus are among the older of our population...Are you committed to the care of our Vets?"
stuff like that....
