Peds roation at a school??

Published

I just found out that our upcoming peds rotation is at a school, not a hospital. I don't understand how this is suppose to work and what I am expected to learn from this. Anyone ever heard of this? Will the BON even count these hours?? I am getting my BSN and am a little wary of this, also I feel like we're being deprived from an essential part of our education. Any thoughts?

I have a few thoughts about this, none of which are positive I am afraid.

I just finished my OB/PEDS rotation, ours was on a PEDS floor but we had a side visit to a local school. I can't imagine not having clinicals with the population you are learning about. Is this something new they are doing, did they lose clinical sites or something? I would not be happy either. I enjoyed my PEDS rotation, I had some REALLY interesting kids. I have to say too that the parents were way more open about our presence than I first thought they would be.

GOOD LUCK WITH SCHOOL

It definitely isn't a plus but imo I'd just go with the flow and do what is expected of you. Unfortunately sometimes our clinical experiences are not everything we would hope for and that is just the luck of the draw. The good news imo is that the majority of what you will need to know when you work will be taught to you on the job.

We just finished our Peds rotation. It was on the Peds floor at the hospital, but we had additional clinical hours in various sites of our choosing, including following a school nurse for a day. I can't imagine doing my whole peds rotation at a school, though, too many students and not enough kids!

I had a clinical rotation at a elementary school for 3 days. It wasn't too bad, I was with the school nurse and at the time they were doing those screenings for vision, hearing, scolosis and I had to perform these tests. There were kids that had diabetes that had to come in every day and a lot of kids had asthma. I was bored most of the time but it was alright.
