Pearson trick and Texas BON website

Published

Howdy everyone! I am a new poster to allnurses, but I've been a reader for a few years.

I took the NCLEX-RN on Tuesday of this week, got cut off at 75 questions, and left the testing center hanging my head in shame.

I had heard about the Pearson trick. So, right after the test, I tried to register for a retake and a popup appeared that read, "Our records indicate that you have recently scheduled this exam. Another registration cannot be made at this time." Word on the street is that popup is a good sign. Still, I didn't believe it so I waited 2 days to get actual results.

On Thursday, around 10:30 am (that is when my test started on Tuesday) I went to the Pearson website to pay the $8 and get results. For bowel movements and giggles I went to the Texas BON website to see if any of the information had changed. But, after looking under RN-NCLEX, RN student, temporary license, and a couple of other criteria, I didn't exist anymore. My friend (who tested with me) was searching the website and right before I submitted my CC information to the Pearson website said, "Wait wait...don't pay! Don't pay! Go to Registered Nurse and put in your information to search." So I did, and lo and behold, there I was. And the screaming and tears from both of us followed. We both passed, first try!

So here is what we did:

1) Study!

2) Take the NCLEX

3) Question our abilities and worth as people/wives/mothers

4) Try to register for a retake (put in ALL the information requested: school, grad date, etc.)

5) Popup appears

6) Wait 2 days (try to stay busy and positive)

7) Go to BON website (we reside in Texas, so this worked on the Texas BON website) and click on "Verify a license"

8) Click on Registered Nurse and put in the info

9) Scream and rejoice, sign all text messages with name followed by RN BSN.

Congratulations.... happy for you... what material did you use?

I used mostly the HESI NCLEX-RN Examination book and Saunder's Comprehensive Review. I used the Barron's pharmacology flash cards and Mosby's Prioritization, Delegation, and Assignment a little bit. I know it seems like a lot of study materials, but I only studied for 6 days before the test. I would NOT recommend that! When do you take yours?

I failed last monday, so i have 45 days to wait so i can schedule, so im counting somewhere end of May...... Im gonna try barrons pharmacology, im so poor in pharmacology.... thankyou

No worries, 45 days will give you a great opportunity to prepare. For $8 Pearson will give you a report that shows the general areas you need to work on. You might want to use that as a reference on where to focus most of your time. Also, I can't say enough about how important it is to get your test-taking strategies down, to the point where you can still make an educated "guess" even if you haven't studied a specific disease/drug/etc.

Good luck!!

I got the feedback from BON, i was near passing in all of them, i ran out of time at quiz 180, i wish had finished, maybe would have had a chance of passing but well... so i was near passing in all areas except one below and one above.... so i have made a schedule that im gonna follow strictly and hopefully next time will be my last time.... its straining and stressing to prepare for nclex.... dont know how you could prepare for that huge exam in one week, that aint gonna happen with me, im too slow...

Don't badmouth yourself. We all have our strengths and weaknesses. Staying positive is important. It's really amazing how the slightest things can have an impact on our performances. I think you have a great plan, stick with it!
