PDN to LTC

Published

I've been working PDN for 3 years, and honestly I'm burnt out. I have a potential new job in a LTC facility. Is this a stupid move? I'm still trying to get into a hospital, and I don't want to do anything to hurt my chances of getting an interview there.

I"m not sure what PDN is, but working at a skilled facility will most likely increase your chances. Most of the hospitals in my area will not hire new grads. They will, however, hire nurses with at least a year's experience. We have a very busy sub acute unit. We do what they do at the hospital excepts vents and hanging blood. If you can work on a sub acute unit, a med surg unit will not be a problem.

Thanks. PDN = private duty nursing, home care with fewer pts and longer shifts. My LTC opportunity fell through, since they were only looking for part time. Thanks for the help though!

If another LTC opportunity comes up, you shouldn't worry that it will hurt your future plans of a hospital job (based on my experience and geography). In the past year, three of my RN coworkers went on to hospital positions from LTC. (I only mentioned RN specifically because all the local hospitals have phased out LPN positions)
