I was looking at the old threads regarding PDA recommendations. (I'm hoping to get one within the next month or so.) I got a lot of great suggestions. My question is this: someone mentioned getting one that includes a digital voice recorder for recording lectures. I'm assuming most do not contain this feature. Does anyone have one that does? I would love to find one that has this.

what is a PDA?
Personal Digital Assistant, Palm Pilot, etc. Seems that the best recommendations have been for the Palm M515 or Zire 71.

Mine has a recording option, but I need to research how "long" it records. I have the Palm Tungsten T3.
I couldn't find anything specific about how long the recording can be, but I assume it is a function of how much memory you have. I assume this because the manual states that you can record the memos on an expansion card.

I have a Palm Tungsten T2 that has a digital voice recorder but I think it only does 30 sec. max. But there a number of useful downloads for nurses. I work Neonatal ICU so I carry the neonatal drug handbook with built in drug dosage calculator and I know there is a lot of stuff out there for peds/adults/crtical care/er that you would find useful

I am shopping for a PDA. Our CON strongly recommended buying one and suggested the Tungsten C. The C seems to perform well, but I figure that if I am going to spend that much, I might as well be able to listen to MP3 in stereo, which the Tungsten C won't allow. (I really don't need WiFi either)
I have researched and really only found the T3 comparable as far as operating system, speed and memory without blowing my budget out of the water.
What I want to know is; do you like it? Is it worth the money? Would you recommend it? Do you actually use it for school/work? I know I'm paying extra for the memory and speed right now, but I'm hoping I won't outgrow it.
Also, what exactly do you need to do play MP3's? Do you need anything besides the expansion card?
PLEASE HELP!!!

i have the zire 71 and it comes with the mp3 package (which has the things you need for mp3 playing). It also has a built in camera...thats good for playing around with. I bought mine for $200 and found a memory card (128 mb) for $25 AT WALMART.
My friend has the T3 and he likes it...but while he was playing with mine...he said mine was better. But , anyway, hope that info helps.

Dont you miss the old days when people would remember things without keeping notes on a PDA. Or when people knew what day of the week it was and what time it was using just a simple old fashioned timex. Now you ask someone the time they whip out their cell phone and or their PDA. What ever happened to people having minds without relying on all these silly machines.
I use my PDA for a handy drug book that has a built in drug calculator and a set of tools for calculating glucose infusion rates etc. that makes pt. care easier. And the voice recorder could be useful for codes for quick reminders regarding tmes, meds, shocks, etc for writing the post code note. My Tungsten T2 came with Real Player in the software so it only needs the memory card.

They do seem to come in handy. Has anyone had problems with battery time? I have a color one and the battery seems to last pretty close to a week with normal use...no normal doesn't mean every second of every day
I assume the B&W ones last a bit longer due to less power being used?

I am on my second iteration of the AUDIOVOX MAESTRO (the first was stolen...)
I cannot recommend this unit highly enough! I just got my new one on ebay for a cool $100 and it has a combination of features others simply do not.
First, it is the same as the Toshiba 5xx EXCEPT(!) it comes with separate SD AND CF slots. (This becomes of great importance as you add memory and accessories!) Most other units do not.
It also has the voice recorder mechanism, great sound, a (truly) bright screen, and is tough enough to handle daily use.
They are available on ebay for $90 to $200 and you'll want to add additional memory (SD) straight off.
Mine is set up with:
256meg SD card
Wireless CF modem
Wired CF modem
128meg CF card (MP3's)
And it all fits nicely in a 2-pocket Targus case.
I cannot express enough superlatives to describe my joy over "my little buddy"...
Good luck.
It is worth noting too that the Palm operating system is like a squeaky tricycle compared to Microsoft Pocket PC's thunderous V8.
Pocket PC is essentially the same program as Windows XP culled down to PDA parameters. Palm is like Windows 3.1.
