RN's can make a small fortune if you save your money and don't live above your means! Right now I make various rates because I do on call and registry only. Full time pay just doesn't cut for me anymore, especially in California where the average home is in the mid 300k now! My advice to any new grad coming out is bite the low pay bullet for 2-3 years in an area of interest and then go parttime do travel or a contract with other facilities that is where the money is right now. The good thing about traveling you don't even have to leave the state! There are so many options for us! I would seek every opportunity in learning and getting paid what I am worth.
