I am sorry if this has been asked and i just didnt see it in the long list of threads

What is the pay scale for starting RN's in NICU or Ob/GYN

Specializes in NICU, PICU, educator.

Same as any new grad at the hospital you apply at :)

It depends where you are located. I was a new grade in 1999 and my starting pay was 19.50 in california. Now in 2004 it is around 21-25$

Specializes in OB, Telephone Triage, Chart Review/Code.

Same as new grad in any hospital. There is no difference in pay between OB and say Med/Surg. We are paid as "nurses". Most won't pay extra in a specialty unless you are certified.

my wife is a 22yr old with 1yr exp. nicu rn, and is making 52k anually.

I think it also depends where you are located i.e. what state you live in and the cost of living factor. For example, here in central NJ, the starting salary is $45K -$50K per year. Not too shabby, however, the cost of living is also significantly more than other places so it may be a wash.

Not true from where I sit. As a new grad I took a job in CCU and made $2 more than my friends that opted Med/Surg. I had to take a bevy of classesin relation to working in unit. Now, working in a NICU I make more than ever. New grads start at $26/hr. I am in a large East coast city hospital BTW.

Specializes in NICU, Newborn Nursery, L&D.

I have been a NICU R.N. for 3 years and recently moved to California and started out at 30.00hr plus 3.50 for nights so I make $33.50/hr pretty good for 3 years.

I have said it before, but it bears repeating. Pay is way over rated when you are a new grad. Go where you will get the best orientation and support.

When I started as a new Grad with my BSN in the NICU 5 years ago, I made $28/ hr, now I make approx $47/hr. I work at a Level 3 NICU in the Silicon Valley, which as most people know the cost of living is HIGH!!

Almost 19 years ago I started at 10.50 an hour...that included my 50c night differential LOL I made more working at a department store and had better benefits LOL

Personally, after working on the regular peds floors...floor nurses are the one that should be getting hazard pay!

You might want to check out the different programs hospitals have. My mom (whose been a nurse for 15 years) is on a weekend plan so she's only required to work SAT and Sun..any days she does after that she gets time and a half and a third. New grads can do the weekend shift also..but starting pay is 18.50. Do the calculations for working 1 to 5 extra days and 2.50 more per hour if you want to work nights and see what you get. I know what I got and I already know I'll be working at the same hospital.!!!!:rotfl:
