I am currently in MS and probably moving there this August. If someone don't mind giving me a heads up on the current pay. TIA.
This will be her 3rd year.:imbar I'm sure ICU is a totally different thing altogether.
403-B Beaumont offers too matches and all. Vacation rollovers... she works 12's so on 3 sometimes 2 and off 4. Works 1 weekend out of the month last year she had like a 21-day straight vacation with pay and still had like too many hours left over. I mean some of this stuff is so ridiculous its unbelievable.
I only decided within the last 2 1/2 years to become a Nurse. My ambitions were strictly corporate. Imagine that. I was 23 and working as a Technical Writer at Ford WHQ global support desk. Wearing suits and conducting meetings NO COLLEGE. 6 mos of her working at William Beaumont made me realize I could still interact with people, make good money, work wonderful hours, and still have time plenty of time to spend with my kids. If she had been working at Beaumont when I graduated high school we probably wouldn't be having this thread conversation right now.
But I'm a witness to hefty paychecks, toooo many days off {I think but hey I'll take it} and spoiled grandchildren {my kids} one of whom just returned from a 7 day cruise in Hawaii :onbch:.
Everyone has to find the place where they are happiest and it all boils down to individual experience. Furthermore-- my mom is a MSN so that may make a difference. Although she earned that degree so that she could do something more... like open her own Nurse agency, HHC or group home she's so spoiled and unmotivated due to this Beaumont gravy train she's riding I think she's waiting for me to finish so I can give her the old push.
I'm glad you found a place that you can call home. The unit you worked on may have been completely callous and unappreciative of your efforts... you're better off.

Thats great. Good for her. Henry Ford Hospital has a great benefits package also. She has prior nursing experience, that's why she's making over 30 bucks an hour. And the management sucked on my unit. So no, I won't go back there full time, just contingent. I do have to keep my sanity.
Yes, I was just talking to her this morning and she basically said it has alot to do with your unit/floor, team, management etc. Because some of the hospitals that she came from and hated, there were many who loved them and vice versa she loves Beaumont but there are some {and probably many who hate it}. She was just fortunate enough to have finally found her place like you.:wink2:

Amen to that. It's very cliquey there too. It is definately the manager of that unit. I'm sorry but I don't see how administration isn't looking into why there is such a high RN turnover.
Cliques... Oh yes. She did say that this was definitely an issue ON DAYS just like High School all over again although she doesn't work days she has collided with them on more than one occassion.. But NIGHTS she claims is a totally different animal... everyone is cool, laid back and looks out for each other just like it ought to be.

I do have to say it was like that on the unit I worked on. I worked nights and some of those day shift nurses would give you hell if you didn't finish everything for them, so I gave them hell right back. I don't let anyone intimidate me. Night shifters were a bit more mellow. A lot of stuff changed on that unit and its not so cliquey anymore because a lot of night shift RNs went to days. On my unit at HFH, its not cliquey at all. The environment is very nurturing and the teamwork is great.
Pray for me because I work at Beaumont tomorrow on my old unit and I can just see crap hitting the fan. It's been really heavy with very very sick patients that are needing ICU care but get sent to my unit.
I was recently hired at Royal Oak Beaumont to work for the Endoscopy unit. Can anyone tell me what to expect? This is my first endo experience. I've been a rn for 7 years and have over 6 1/2 years floor nursing experience, including cardiac telemetry. I am also ACLS certified. I can anticipate some differences from floor nursing, but just wondering if anyone had any input, especially concerning this specific hospital. I've worked for St. John (main, on Moross) and St. Joseph (Now Henry Ford, at 19 mi and Garfield). Thanks!

I don't know very much about the endoscopy unit. Sorries.
Everyone has their own opinion, I guess. I have worked at Beaumont for 15 years and love it! I don't think there is a hospital in the tri county area that does not have the staffing issues. After all, there is a nursing shortage. Beaumont is very supportive of their staff, and the flexibility that they offer is incredible. Many units are now doing self staffing, where you can pick your own days. The pay scale at Beaumont is comparable to other hospitals. Pay for performance, what is wrong with that? I think we all have known some nurses who did not deserve a raise, while everyone else picked up their slack. I highly recommend Beaumont as an employer, especially if you have wanted to work there.
Beaumont Royal Oak EC was the most disappointing experience I have ever had as a nurse. I almost died there as a patient and years later I ended up working there...the lies, the gossip etc. of only a few people destroy the whole atmosphere... and made me quit. I would not take my dog there...sorry to say that. Crappy insurance, retirement, everything was just bad, nothing like the comercials on TV and radio. I miss the nice people, the wonderful 480 people (aprox.) and still I am glad I got away from the miserable 20 nagging nurses that made working there hell with their terrible attitude. The doctors were very nice. The pay was one dollar higher than any other place...but again, who wants to lose their sanity just to say that they work at Beaumont EC?
Every place is flexible. HFH has self-scheduling. The thing I like better about HFH, is if I pick up overtime, I can self-cancel 24 hours before the shift. At Beaumont, you have to work, there's no self-cancelling. I also like that I can work 4,8,12 hours overtime if I like. My benefits at Beaumont were outrageous. I pay 43 bucks for medical, vision, dental and short term disability at HFH and the bens are good.
I remember when I started nursing school, my managers at WBH flat out told me that they could not accomodate my schedule. I wanted to work every weekend so I could go to school during the week. So no, in the five years I worked there, I don't recall them being flexible. With that being said, my friends that currently work at WBH are all trying to find different jobs at different hospitals. The unit I worked on for five years has a crazy staff turn over because after a year of the b.s. everyone wants to leave and does. Most of the senior staff either quit or went to different units.
To each his own. I think it just depends on where you work within the hospital. It's better in the ICUs, the stepdowns and the regular units at WBH is a different story.

Well, of course, she's probably been there for years. You really have to in order to be making over 30 bucks an hour. If she had worked on the unit I had worked on while I was at Beaumont for five years, she surely would have ran away.
