Pay rate for Lpn's in Dr.s office in Tampa??

Published

Hello,

I just got my license and got an offer for an Lpn position in a Specialist Dr.s office. The problem is that they asked me how much I would like to make and I didn't know what to tell them as I dont know how much they make in Dr.s offices. Please help me in negotiating a pay rate. I have to tell them this coming week.

Also, for a new Lpn, is it better to try to work in an LTC or hospital versus a Dr.'s office? I know I would probably get more experience in a big facility. What do you guys think? Any replies are very much appreciated.

Thank you!!!!

I cant completely be helpful in answering your question since I work as a Medical Assistant in the Tampa Bay area, but am working toward my LPN. However, I do know that on average LPNs probably make around $16/hr in these settings. I worked at a Neurology practice in Tampa and this is around what the LPN was making. If the specialist you were offered a position at happens to do a lot of surgeries, you may be able to negotiate for more dpending on the role he would want you to play.

Now as for what setting is best, I cant answer that. As an MA I worked in a doctors office, but now work in an outpatient clinic at a Hospital and I prefer that much more because it is very hands on (lots of shots, procedures). The LPNs there have done both LTC, hospital and outpatient and all have settled on outpatient doctors office settings because it is a lot less stress. But they all also recommend that I experience actual patient care in Hospital and LTC settings because you get so much exposure and thinking on your feet. So hope this was helpful to you.

I think the pay is probably lower in dr's offices. I think 16 seems a little high. They don't usually pay that.

How much is the MA pay rate starting off in Tampa? I am going to be an MA while I wait to take my LPN classes. I was wondering if it is safe to say that I'll start off at $11 an hour? I will be Nationally Certified and such.
