We now pay 40 hours for three 12 hours shifts. Is this a common practice? Additionally, in the event an individual falls short of the 36 hours, we allow the application of PTO to get to the 36 hour threshold in order to get paid for 40. Again, is this a common practice? thanks. tomt

I work 36 and get paid for 40. That's only because I'm on the "weekend plan" (Fri-Sun). I cannot use PTO to make the 36 and still get paid for 40, though.

I think this is what they call the Baylor plan, and it used to be fairly common. I always wondered if the name came from Baylor University in Texas--perhaps the plan originated there.
