Pay per visit rates in CA

I currently work full-time at a hospital but I'm looking to add a home health Perdiem job. I have an interview with one company so far, I know they are pay per visit and I was just wondering what the current pay per visit rate are in southern California? The company is very close to my house and I'm able to select the cities I want to work in which is an added bonus, but I want to make sure I'm not being underpaid and the Company is on the up and up with everything. Aside from the pay is there anything I should look out for, any red flags when considerkng a HH company?

Home Health jobs vary in pay rates depending on the type of visit and agency. They can range from approx. $50.00 (for regular visit) to $100.00 for SOC (Start of care/admit) visits, with others (IV infusion etc) in-between. What you need to find out is how will they schedule you (1 day a week, or just call if they need you). Example: are they going to guarantee you a full day, if not you could end up with only 1-2 visits/day and make only $50-100 for that day. Also, are they going to pay you for mileage (and will that matter to you). You also need to know that there will be more time involved than they will probably tell you (paper work etc). And also ask if they are expecting you to be the "case manager" because that would mean that you are responsible for the care (following the patient on an ongoing basis), that will take even more time. I worked for an agency that gave me 1 day/week so I would just show up, they would give me 4-5 patients to see that day (depending on treatment etc), I would do only a patient visit note (which doesn't take that much time) and that was it. That worked well. I know others who had jobs as I described above and they did not like it because it was too much time and responsibility for very little money. Hope this helps.

Thank you, that information is very helpful. They said on the phone that the start of care visit is $80 and all the other visits are less than that. They gave me the amounts but I don't remember exactly just that $80 is the highest. I don't have a lot of experience in nursing in general and none in home health so I wanted to make sure I'm not being taken advantage of before I go in and sign paperwork. The good thing is they work in three counties and you can select the specific cities you want to work in, but the position is per diem so I do need to find out about the scheduling like you mentioned.

$80 for a SOC is on the low side, but maybe they are going to do some of the work for you (example: filling in some of the ICD codes etc). It is good that you can pick and choose which patients you want to see. Just make sure you know upfront if they expect you to be the "case manager" for the patients you SOC. This will mean that you are responsible for managing all care for that patient, PT/OT, CNA, medications, emailing the MD for changes etc., this can be very time consuming and also places the responsibility for the patient soley on you. Also clarify their policy for paperwork, most is done on the computer (usually) but there is still (physical) paperwork that needs to be brought to the office, know the time frame for bringing it in and that it will work for you. Again, hope this helps.

Thank you, Daisy4RN, this is very helpful
