April 28th is Pay It Forward Day - a day to celebrate acts of kindness worldwide. On this day, people are encouraged to show acts of kindness to others, including strangers.  Share stories of how you have paid it forward.  Have you been on the receiving end of a Pay It Forward act of kindness?  How did it make you feel?

My older brother was dealing with prostate cancer and was on his last legs. I knew he wasn't long for this world but was surprised to get a call from my sister during one MN shift report who told me that he was failing fast.

I informed my coworkers and the evening nurse said, "Go. Get out of here. Be with your brother. I'll cover for you".

"Thanks!" I replied, "I owe you!"

"You don't owe me anything. Now, get out of here!" she said.

A really nice, selfless gesture by a coworker at a time when I really needed it.

Many years ago, my family and I were very poor. It was Christmas time and we had no gifts for the kids. But someone whose name I will never know told a local charity about us, and two days before Christmas they delivered a batch of gifts—some of which were for me and my hubby! Never would I have believed such a thing could happen to us. But it did…and years later, when I was working as a nurse, I was able to write a check to the organization that had given us so much joy when we were at our lowest point. ?
