Nursing Students Student Assist

Does anyone have any recommendations for studying for Patho? I have been using the online resources for my textbook and the book itself. Any free interactive resources would be appreciated.

Thanks

I'm not 100% sure, but I think these questions might help:

Where does the bilirubin come from? Where is it going when it goes through the duct? If it can't leave through that duct, where might it build up in your body? What would be the result of it building up in your body (e.g. does it affect just one organ (which one if just one)? more than one? or possibly even systemic?) would bilirubin be detectable by some sort of test or signs?

To me, the question of where does the bilirubin come from is the one that would probably get me to realize what would happen if one couldn't excrete it. You might also look up bilirubin lab testing on a site like medscape, MedlinePlus, Mayo Clinic, etc. as that's where I got the idea that where it's coming from might be relevant. (Also looking at the signs & symptoms of bile duct obstruction over on medlineline plus clued me in as to what I think the question is asking.)

Thanks Indy! I like the way you asked questions about my question to get me thinking about what the question is really asking. After reviewing the s/s I realized that dark urine and jaundice are due to the build up of conjugated bilirubin. The conjugated bilirubin is water soluble and being reabsorbed since it can not pass through the bile duct into the GI tract to be eliminated as feces. I appreciate your making me think:)

LOL, glad it helped! I'm laughing a little because the questions were for two reason (1) to benefit you and (mainly, 2) because my pathophys class was terrible and I'm having to teach a lot of the material to myself (without the benefit of any exams to confirm that I've mastered the material) so I'm reluctant to post any direct answers.

(My lame pathophys class tested only over really basic facts like "Jaundice is caused by the build up of ____ in the body" with 4 straight-forward choices. Very disappointing class!)

 You are on the same track as what I was thinking though!

patho is great. u can use patho made easy book. if you want online i recommend The Great nurse or thegreatnurse.com and rnquizzes.com for reviews. the great nurse has an option to request videos so if there is something you really dont understand you can try to request it.

as far as apps are concerned im not too sure
