Patho: Drug Categories

Published

Hey everyone! I start Pathophysiology in less than 2 weeks and they keep telling us to learn the drugs in categories rather than individually. I was wondering if any of you had a website or a list that had the drugs in their respectful categories? Thanks

I've been looking at a couple of the drug sites and drug index sites I have bookmarked and none of them seem to be organized in the way you are looking for. I think your best bet is to get your hands on a copy of a nurses drug handbook. Most of them list the major drug categories in the first pages. However, in answer to your original question, I have not run across any website that lists drugs by their categories with the exception of the sites like HeartCenter Online and Diabetes Online and their sister sites which will give you lists of drugs used to treat various diseases that fall in those areas by drug category.

When I took patho, they never asked us any pharm questions.

But I was taking patho and pharm during the same quarter, so that might have been why. For pharm, I agree that it is better to learn the drugs in categories rather than individually (at least at first). To do that, I used my pharm book.

Dunno if that helps

Hey, Nathalie! I think a little angel has been sitting on my shoulder today. I've been looking for a bit and finally found what you and a lot of the other students on the forum have been looking for. Here is a link to a website that will allow you to get quick information by drug categories. I believe you can also look up specific drugs at the site if you like. Anyway, wouldn't you know, I think it was set up for pharmacists initially. Here's the link. If you know how to back in to the home page you can find links to lots more information (I haven't checked it out yet, but I saw a bunch of links on IV information).

i found this at the edruginfo.com site. it is a tool to help you make your own drug cards so they end up nicely printed out. you have to input all the information yourself, so if you put something in to the constructor incorrectly, it will be printed out incorrectly. this constructor merely prints the information you supply it onto a pre-formatted form. in playing around with it i found that you could not go back to previous pages, otherwise you lost your input data up to that point. i'm not real proficient with my printer, but i was able to shrink the finished card i made down to 7" x 5" but couldn't figure out how to print a border on it, so i could cut it out nicely. in any case, play around with it. it looks like it can be a helpful tool for creating drug card files. you need to register to get into the constructor, but it is free. have fun.
