Passing Meds without the REDS

Nurses General Nursing

Published

New nurse here. I have gotten my first nursing job, and was wondering what advice you guys can give on how to give meds, check glucose, and give insulin without going red.

I am the only nurse, and right now I have 12 patients. We have and hour before, and an hour after before we go red, bu prep can be little overwhelming.

Thanks,

Marie

I know EXACTLY what you were talking about in your original post. We have the same system. It's like giant red boxes that fill your screen, you feel like you've failed. I have no advice though, I've just been doing QMA training to prepare me for when I get my RN and start working the system in a couple months. I can say, that a lot of it depends on when how med times are sorted. It's so frustrating when some one has meds ordered at multiple times and as soon as you give one med, the time flips over and they have more due.
